Bob Campbell, MW: 95/100. The First Burn Cottage Moonlight Race Pinot Noir under screwcap delivers you rich black Doris plum / dark berry fruit flavours and succulent tannins from the Sauvage Vineyard that are beautifully tempered by the floral, crunchy red fruit and savoury edge of the Burn Cottage.

Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier: 94/100. Fabulous bouquet loaded with aromas of ripe, sweet red berry fruits, market fresh raspberry, very floral, youthful, fresh and decidedly complex. On the palate - even better with flavours that mirror the bouquet, an abundance of fine fruit tannins accentuated with acidity, minerality and a core of complexity. Wonderfully balanced, moderate weight, loads of finesse and charm with a lengthy finish. What I like most about this wine is the mouthfeel and persistent flavour profile. This is easily the best release of Moonlight Race to date. Best drinking from late 2022 through 2029. Tasted over three days this wine showed best on day three.

Already delicious, this estate-grown red was hand-picked from 16 to 20 year-old vines at Lowburn and Bannockburn,  fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak casks (21 per cent new).  Deep, bright ruby, with a fragrant, savoury bouquet, it is mouthfilling, vigorous and sweet-fruited, with concentrated, youthful cherry, plum and spice flavours, supple tannins, and impressive complexity and harmony. Best drinking 2024+.

James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 94/100 & Top 100 Wines of New Zealand 2021. Aromas of blueberries, cherries, pomegranates, dried flowers and baking spices. It's medium-bodied with lively acidity. Vibrant and crunchy with plenty of fruit. Succulent finish with excellent length. Linear and tight at the finish. Drink now or hold.

Der Name "Moonlight Race": Der Name Moonlight Race stammt von einem Wasserweg, der durch das Grundstück Burn Cottage führt. Er ist einer von Hunderten von Wasserkanälen ("Races"), die in den frühen Jahren der europäischen Einwanderung angelegt wurden, um Wasser aus den Bergen herunterzubringen. Der Moonlight-Race-Wasserkanal hat seine Anfänge im geschmolzenem Schnee und Regen in der Pisa-Bergkette, 1100-1600 Meter über dem Grundstück Burn Cottage.
