Paritua Red 2019
Reviews
Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 94/100. Vinous rather than fruity with chocolate/mocha, dark berry, cedar and petrichor (rain on hot asphalt) flavours. A complex wine with rich, ripe tannins. Drink 2022 - 2032.
NZ Wine Rater (Steve Bennett MW, Lynette Hudson): 93/100. Prominent, lifted, high-tone bouquet with aromas of black Doris plum, and wild blackberries, with hints of cloves, seaweed, graphite and cedar. Full-bodied, highly structured, primary wine with dark, brooding fruit and masses of rich, chalky tannins. Will need a few more years to show its best.
Cameron Douglas MS: 93/100. Made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc - delivers aromas and flavours of blackberries and tobacco, toasty barrel spices, crushed violets and Doris plums. Waves of brown spices add complexity and breadth. Dry, spiced, toasty and complex on the palate, lovely flavours and textures combine to deliver a wine of power and youthful. Frim ripe tannins, medium+ acidity, taut and new. Best drinking from late 2024 through 2030+.
Tasting Note
A deep ruby red colour, with complex and dense aroma of blackberry, blackcurrant, wild forest berries with fine cedar notes, oyster shell and graphite, baking spices, some cigar box notes and dark chocolate. The palate is silky and rich, with powerful mid palate tannins and concentrated blackberry, cassis, with a fine and long savoury finish.

Winemaking: Whole bunches are destemmed and pass through our optical grape sorting machine and then crushed to a closed fermenter. After a period of cold soak we inoculate with a preferred yeast. Temperatures are then managed to reach about 30°C. Malo-lactic conversion takes place during maceration in tank which can take up to 35 days. We aim for about 40% new French oak barriques, elevage in barrels can take up to 18 months with final barrel selection and blending prior to bottling. This wine was bottled without fining after a light filtration.
