Paritua Stone Paddock Syrah 2021
Review
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: 93/100. Delightfully fruited and inviting with dark plum, sweet cherry, floral and mixed spice aromas, it's succulent and supple in the mouth delivering silky texture and a lingering juicy finish. Upfront and friendly, offering charming drinking. At its best: now to 2028.
Cameron Douglas MS: 92/100. Pure fruited, lifted and enticing fragrance of Syrah - raspberry flesh laced with white pepper, clove and toasty wood scents, roasted nut and black currant. Fleshy and juicy textures on the palate with fine tannins and acid adding mouthfeel, foundation and texture. The core fruit flavours reflect the bouquet and drive the palate contrasted by tannin and acid lines. Low wood flavours, balanced and well made. Best drinking from 2023 through 2028+.
Bob Campbell, MW: 92/100. Moderately intense, supple, elegant Syrah with floral, violet, dark berry, cassis, black pepper and chocolate-mocha flavours. Bright, vibrant wine that can be enjoyed now or after a little more bottle age.
Tasting note
An aroma of dark blackberry and violets, mixed spice, clove with a hint of pepper. The palate is elegant and plush with fruit flavours of plum and blackberry, five spice and pepper round off the finish.

Additional information
Type: red wine from New Zealand
Varietal: Syrah
Food match: Enjoy with Venison, slow cooked beef, eggplant based dishes.
Vineyards: Triangle vineyard, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Soils are stony river gravels with a silt loam cover. The loam top layer varies in depth from 50cm deep to being completely absent. This causes some variation in ripening, with the silty areas producing slightly higher degrees of pepper notes and the stones providing the riper floral and fruit spectrum. Fruit thinning is essential, and the canopy is fastidiously managed to allow good sunlight and airflow over the grapes.Winemaking: The fruit was destemmed and passed over an optical grape sorter, then partially crushed to tank. Fermentation was preceded by a short period of cold soaking. Fermentation temperatures reached 30°C and daily cap management varied from two to three pump-overs a day. Barrel maturation is in French oak barriques for 12 months or more of which 20% new. This wine is unfined and was filtered before bottling.
