Reviews & Accolades
MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2025: Gold.
Cameron Douglas MS: 94/100. A lovely purity and freshness with definitive scents of ripe citrus and fine lees, some tropical fruit moments and white peach. Equal purity levels as the wine touches the palate, flavours mirror the bouquet led by citrus and stone fruit, some fine lees compexity cement the style, a definitive backbone of acidity and lengthy, balanced and even finish. Best from late 2024 through 2028.
Marlborough Wine Show 2024: Gold.
Tasting Note
This wine is aromatic, fresh and crisp with succulent ripe, fruit flavours balanced by a refreshing yet gentle acidity. Passionfruit, honeysuckle, lemon curd and red capsicum aromatics leap from the glass while the palate has concentrated citrus and tropical characters with underlying fresh, herbaceous tones. Well-balanced with lovely structure and length.

Growing Season 2024: Spring presented a few frost threats and there was some damage in the area, but we weren’t heavily affected. Cooler weather over the flowering period did have an effect though, with lower-than-average fruit-set, meaning less bunches and less berries translating into lower overall yields - Sauvignon Blanc was approximately 20% down on an average year. With such little rainfall during winter, some of the blocks required irrigation from November. This led to some big canopies, but we managed them well, ensuring the vines were in balance and had good airflow from maintaining open fruit zones. This kept disease pressure low and contributed to us harvesting completely ripe grapes in perfect condition. The combination of low rainfall with a warm, dry summer and cool autumn was magical. The low yields meant both intense flavours and complete ripeness, so we were able to harvest the grapes in perfect condition and give each parcel the love and attention it deserved. Harvest was earlier than normal with the Pinot Noir coming at a relatively leisurely pace and with such low levels (down around 30%) all the other varieties ripened in a rush. With such great fruit quality and ideal weather, we had to harvest as quickly as possible so that the grapes didn’t over-ripen. Apart from a couple of later picks for Pioneer and late harvest wines we were finished before the end of March.
Winemaking: Cool weather at flowering resulted in lower crop levels but the upside is great flavour concentration. The long, sunny growing season allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly so each block was harvested as it reached optimum ripeness and flavour. The grapes were gently pressed and most of the juice fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected cultured yeast. A small amount was fermented with wild yeast in old French barriques. This added a little more complexity and texture and softened the overall acidity, giving a deliciously expressive, enjoyable style of Sauvignon Blanc.
