About Paritua
Bespoke wines from the oldest gravels in Hawke’s Bay. The winery lies in the heart of the acclaimed Bridge Pa Triangle wine region of Hawke’s Bay, on New Zealand’s North Island.
The name Paritua
The name Paritua is a tribute to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard. Paritua means the meandering stream above the ancient river. The vineyard is planted over the historical riverbed of the nearby Ngaruroro River which flowed through pre the 1860s earthquake. It is a name that also acknowledges the connection with the land and the people of New Zealand.
The Paritua vineyard and wines
The vines were planted in 2003 and with 53 hectares planted. The soils are redmetal gravels, which contain large amounts of iron and manganese. Seventy percent is devoted to red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec – with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay completing the picture. Paritua’s vineyard enjoys stony, free draining soils, long summers and crisp winters, which combine to produce exceptional quality grapes to craft the wines.
The chief winemaker of the winery is Jason Stent. He has been with Paritua for 14 years. Prior to this, he was red winemaker at Sacred Hill. His passion is to create wines that respect the place and terroir where the vine grows. The flagship wine "21·12" is only produced in the best vintages. Wines bearing the boutique label Paritua are produced only in outstanding vintages, whilst the Stone Paddock selection of wines are made every year. Every bottle of Paritua wine comes from grapes grown on this special, single vineyard, organically farmed site. All Paritua wines are vegan friendly.
