Red Icons: Waiheke vs. Hawke’s Bay
Perfect for anyone who loves characterful reds: This mixed case brings together two of New Zealand’s most renowned producers. Waiheke Island, with its intense, Mediterranean-inspired style, goes head-to-head with Hawke’s Bay, celebrated for elegance and finesse. A thrilling duel in the glass – which terroir will win your heart?
The wine case contains the following wines (0.75l bottles each):
Waiheke Island:
One of New Zealand's best Syrah: supremely, rich and full-bodied, but with the elegance we love in cool-climate Syrah. Clearly, the only thing you should dread here is missing out on this world-class Waiheke Island Syrah.
From Waiheke's breathtakingly appointed Man O' War. Their flagship blend is mainly Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Complex with subtle power, harmony.
Hawke's Bay:
This is glorious Syrah" - Decanter. The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago. Produced from the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this distinct Syrah shows an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics with lushness and elegance on the palate.
Te Kahu means 'the cloak' in te reo Maori and refers to the mist that envelops Craggy Range Winery in the Tukituki Valley. Legend has it that this mist was used to protect a mythical Maori maiden from the sun as she visited her lover Te Mata. This is a wine of richness and an abundance of black fruit flavours and a long structured finish.
