Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Review Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2023Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 95/100. Bright, fresh wine with typical varietal/regional characters including capsicum, gooseberry, lemongrass and passionfruit. Appealing purity with a perfect sweet/sour balance. A pleasure to taste.

Review Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2023Cameron Douglas MS: 93/100. Fragrant, ripe, fruity, varietal and captivating bouquet with scents of fresh citrus and apple, lemon and white fleshed orchard fruits, a core of minerality with a stony wet river pebble quality. Delicious on the palate, crisp and dry with a classic backbone of acidity, fresh mountain herbs and fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The lengthy finish and textures along with core varietal fruit highlights deliver a wine for all fans of SB. Best drinking from 2024 through end of summer 2027.

Bewertung Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2023James Suckling ( 92/100. Clean and crisp with grapefruit, green melon and lemon character. Hints of stones. Medium body. Lovely acidity and a delicious finish. Some phenolic tension here. Drink now.

Tasting Note

Pure and bright perfume with aromatics of grapefruit and white peach. Subtle smoke and gravelly tones layered over this create a complexity beyond the immediate fruit profile. Juicy, plush, white fleshed fruit pour across the palate with a refreshing and defined acidity balancing the sunny fruit profile, finishing clean and dry.

Additional information

Type: White wine

Grape varial: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Alcohol: 13% vol

Food match: Fresh, simple seafood dishes especially oysters. Also compliments goat cheese well. Try a goat cheese summer salad.

Vineyard location: Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand

Soil type: Silty-clay loams, some parcels with gravels interspersed.

Vintage: A mild spring after a wet winter in 2022 gave the vines a good start to growth. Budburst timing occurred around average from early September with only a few minor frost events occurring after that. Flowering in November was during a period of cool and grey conditions which managed to produce a respectable yield. December continued with drizzly weather, meaning an exceptionally large amount of work was required to maintain healthy fruit into January. March and April returned to more settled, drier conditions, giving the vines a chance to ripen in beautiful conditions, with our classic, cool overnight temperatures and sunny days.

Winemaking: Dog Point's version of the classic aromatic Marlborough style of Sauvignon Blanc. Handpicked fruit is whole bunch pressed and cold settled before fermentation. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks then bottled without fining.

Total acidity: 7.4 g/l

Bottle size: 0.75l

Notice: contains sulphites
