Reviews
Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 96/100. Intense, mouthwatering chardonnay with lime, pineapple, oyster shell/mineral, hazelnut and subtle spicy oak flavours. Delicious high-energy wine in a rather Chablis-esque style with purity and power.
Cameron Douglas MS: 96/100. Fabulous bouquet and palate with aromas of fresh peach and gun-flint minerality, new and used barrel with a nutty cashew complexity, baked apple and quince. Delicious, fresh and dry with a satin touch, back bone of acidity and flavours of barrel, flint, mineral and oak. Fine tannins, a lengthy finish and delicious complexity. Best drinking from mid to late 2023 through 2029.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 94/100 & Top 100 Value Wines of 2022. Inviting aromas of flint, matchstick, grated nutmeg, dried lemon rind and sliced grapefruit. Medium-bodied with silky texture. Fresh and bright fruit turns more savory with herbs and spice coming to the forefront. Layered. Tannic, tight finish. .... Drink now.
MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator: 94/100.Succulent and mouthwatering, with a snappy mix of lemon curd, lemon blossom and flint elements. Shows more nuanced notes of salted butterscotch, brioche and litsea oil that linger in the background, while the fresh, vibrant acidity is sleek on the finish, providing focus and length.
Michael Cooper: 5 stars. The 2020 vintage is bright, light yellow/green, with a fresh savoury bouquet. Mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, it has concentrated peachy, citrusy flavours, finely integrated oak, excellent complexity and a dry, crisp finish. Likely to be long-lived, it’s worth cellaring to 2024+.
Tasting Note
A ripe citrus spectrum of fruit is at the core of a complex chardonnay with spice, peach, toasted nuts and gravelly, flint aromas. A pure and focussed palate with a bright, crunchy structure and fine acidity. The complex barrel aged flavours also imparting textures that carry on the back of the fine acidity.
