Reviews
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 97/100. Deeply fragrant and perfumed, this offers
aromas of wild strawberries, dark cherries,
violets, lead pencil and potpourri. The
refined and pure palate has finely integrated
tannins, bright acidity and a generous
texture, giving notes of raspberries, blood
oranges, forest floor and bark. Firmly
structured with a savory undertone. Pure
sophistication, showing a soft touch in the
vineyard and winery. Drink or hold.
Erin Larkin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 96/100. The 2022 Tinker's Field Mature Vine Pinot Noir is so savory and mineral this vintage. The 2021 was eminently lithe and supple, but this is statuesque and serious, with sandalwood, aniseed, mountain flowers, amaro-esque herbs and something pure, powerful and bracing, like a briskly cold martini. This has curve and shape and a steely line that will bode well for its long future. For now, I'd likely drink the 2021 in its stead, while this comes of age.
Tasting note
Subtle and complex aromas of cherries, strawberries, rasberries, spices, violets. The palet mirror the aromas on the nose and adds a lovely minerality. A medium+ body with firm, tight, linear, fine-grained tannins. Goes on for a super long time.

Vineyard site: Lake Wanaka, Central Otago, New Zealand. A unique parcel within Rippon, Tinker’s Field is a gentle, north facing slope formed by an ancient ejection cone of coarse schist gravels. Tinker’s Field is home to the oldest vines on the property and is named after Rippon’s visionary founder, Rolfe Mills (Tink to his friends), and the land that he had dreamed of farming since childhood.Winemaking: Picked by hand into small, 10kg cases allowing the fruit to arrive at the winery's sorting table undamaged and intact. Picked and fermented separately in 2-tonne stainless-steel fermenters. Each parcel is fermented and matured apart before blending. The winery’s resident yeast population (non-inoculated) took 1-29 days to complete cuvaison. The ferments reached temperatures between 14-31° Celsius. 9 months of new (21%) to 4 year old French oak barrels. The malolactic fermentation went through unaided (non-inoculated) in springtime; it was then racked back into barrel and allowed a second winter in neutral barrels before being run directly into bottle without filtering or fining. Total time in barrel: 18 months.
