Oz Clarke: 97/100. Putting New Zealand’s most astute vineyard expert together with one of the country’s best winemakers was always going to work. And so it has proved. Since 2004 Dog Point have released a cavalcade of enticing wines, sometimes re-defining what was possible in Marlborough. Section 94 is such a wine. Not many people make a success of this barrel-fermented and -aged style, but in the tricky 2018 vintage this is a triumph. Intriguing pink apple and grainy peach skin fruit seems to be sprinkled with summer country meadow dust, and wrapped in a bone-dry fudge of toasted hazelnuts, crips black chocolate and Kenya coffee beans. Super winemaking from one of New Zealand’s greats.

Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 96/100 (Sept 2023). Intense, oak - matured sauvignon blanc with lemongrass, oyster shell, ginger, spicy oak and nutty yeast lees flavours. Bright, complex and satisfying wine that takes Marlborough sauvignon to a different level.

Cameron Douglas MS: 96/100 (Sept. 2023).  Fantastic bouquet with a complexity and pungency, a varietal signature of ripe grapefruit and fresh herb, there’s a mineral and smokiness then aromas of peach and cape gooseberry, apple and moments of tropical fruits. On the palate a fine satin texture touches first then flavours of gooseberry and citrus, peach and apple, and a distinctive complexity from barrel fermentation and wild ferment aromas of wild flowers. The backbone of acidity deposits flavours and mineral throughout the palate as well as mouthfeel and youthful tension. Well made, complex and lengthy. In short a delicious wine and excellent SB expression. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2028+.

Nick Stock für James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 94/100 (Nov. 2020). The complex style is nicely dialed-in here, offering a fresh array of grilled lemon and peach with some gently nutty aromas, as well as a lime-curd edge. Really fresh. The palate has fleshy and smooth texture with praline-like flavors sitting in a fresh citrus and peach core.

MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator: 94/100 (Dez. 2020). Fragrant, intense and succulent, with distinctive honeysuckle, chamomile, spicy marmalade and ripe peach flavors on a fleshy frame, showing a touch of lanolin. Notes of mango, mineral and candied ginger emerge on the finish.

Bob Campbell, MW: The ... Dog Point Vineyard Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc has achieved cult status for its barrel ferment, yeast lees and mineral/reductive characters, which elevate it above the normally fruit-forward Marlborough styles.

Anregende Aromen von Zitrone, Mango, weißem Pfirsich, Toast, Gebäck komplettiert von den für den Section 94 typischen Streichholz- und Rauchnoten. Am Gaumen ist der Wein intensiv, mit viel Gewicht und einer cremigen Textur. Ein vollmundiger Stil von Sauvignon Blanc, mit einer lebendige Säure, Zitrus-, Pfirsich- Toast- und Nussaromen.

Weinberg: Section 94 - Marlborough home vineyard, Marlborough, Neuseeland. Der Weinberg wurde 1992 auf schluffigen Lehmböden gepflanzt.

Weinherstellung: Von Hand geerntet. Der Dog Point Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc wurde komplett spontan vergoren. Dann in alte französische Fässer gefüllt. Der Wein lagerte 18 Monate auf der Hefe, danach ohne Schönung und nur mit minimaler Filtration abgefüllt.

Der Name Section 94: Abschnitt (Section) 94 ist der Vermessungstitel, der von den frühen Siedlern bei der ersten Aufteilung des Landes für den Verkauf vergeben wurde.
